Corrosion

In order to understand different types of corrosion levels, Nordic Galvanizers has developed the following definitions to describe different classes (C1-CX) in relation to different environments.

Swedish ground environment extends over the entire width, but it can be said that an "average" Swedish ground environment can be based on class C3 from the calculation of technical life.

In a sacrificial system, which galvanized steel is, the corrosion rate is calculated as an effect of the effective mass loss in the various corrosion classes to which it is exposed.

The scale is relatively exponential, which means that each step up in corrosion level is much more aggressive than the previous one.

In order to further understand the corrosion problem in a load-bearing construction (Ground screw & Splint), the product is primarily based on a series of load calculations that tell how much bearing capacity, lateral force and compressive force the construction must handle.

In our comparative calculations, we assume that the products lose their ability to function when 100% of the galvanized is gone and 25% of the steel. Most likely, depending on the load, the functional impairment occurs earlier, but in a comparison it still plays an important function that they all start from the same relative "breaking point".

Nevertheless, such a comparative calculation must be based on the highest value within the respective corrosion class.


Our system leans towards the synergistic effects generated by "painting on galvanized". The so-called the duplex formula (which is a globally accepted standard) is used to calculate the corrosion of a painted, galvanized surface.

Depending on the corrosion level in which the product is mounted, a factor of 1.5-2.3 is given.

For a level in class C3 (Swedish average soil environment), the factor is 2, which gives a calculated, double lifetime of the corrosion protection. If a galvanized product has a technical life of 50 years and it is treated with our Xtreme System, the technical life will reach 100 years in a C3 environment.
